2013-2014 WHAP Reading Schedule

Week of 8/19/13- 8/24/13- Read Ch 1: From the Origins of Agriculture to the First River-Valley Civilizations (pgs 1-35).  Take detailed notes on each of the following chapter sections: Before Civilization, Mesopotamia, Egypt, The Indus Valley Civilization & define all of the key terms on page 34.  Your notes & key terms will be collected for points BEFORE the  Ch 1 Test that will be on Monday, 8/26/13

Week of 8/26/13- 9/3/13- Read Ch 2: New Civilizations in the Eastern and Western Hemispheres, 2200-250 B.C.E. (pgs 36-57).  Take detailed notes on each of the following chapter sections:  Early China, Nubia, First Civilizations of the Americas: The Olmec and Chavin, 1200-250 B.C.E.  & define all the key terms on page 57.  Your notes & key terms will be collected for points BEFORE the Ch 2 Test that will be on Tuesday, 9/3/13.

Week of 9/3/13- 9/9/13- Read Ch 3: The Mediterranean and Middle East, 2000-500 B.C.E. (pgs. 59-86).  Take detailed notes on each of the following chapter sections: The Cosmopolitan Middle East, The Aegean World, The Assyrian Empire, Israel, Phoenicia and the Mediterranean, Failure and Transformation (Be sure to read the Conclusion as well). Define all of the key terms on page 86.  Your notes and key terms will be collected for points BEFORE the Ch 3 Test that will be on Monday, 9/9/13.

Week 9/9 - 9/16- Read Ch 4: Greece and Iran 1000-30 BCE (pgs 92-121) and take notes over all of the sub-headings, and define all of the key terms on pages 120-121.  Ch 4 Test will be on Monday 9/16/13

Week 9/16 - 9/24-  Read Ch 5: An Age of Empires- Rome and Han China 753 BCE - 600 CE (pages 123-148) and take notes over all of the sub-headings, and define all of the key terms on page 148.  Ch 5 Test will be on Tuesday, 9/24/13

Week of 9/24 - 9/30- Read Ch 6: India and Southeast Asia 1500 BCE - 600 CE (pages 150-170) and take notes over all of sub-headings, and define all of the key terms on page 170.  Ch 6 Test will be on Tuesday, 10/1/13

Week of 10/1 - 10/8- Read Ch 7: Networks of Communication and Exchange and take notes over all the sub-headings and define all the key terms.  Ch 7 Test will be on Tuesday, 10/8/13.

Weeks of 10/8 - 10/22-  Read Ch 8: The Rise of Islam and take notes over all the sub-headings and define all the key terms.  Ch 8 Test will be on Tuesday, 10/22/13.
